The New Zealand Home-based Early Childhood Education Association was formed in 1987.  It is an organisation specifically for people involved in home-based care, such as educators/caregivers, nannies, parents, coordinators, managers, and training providers.  The Association provides a united voice on early childhood issues from a home-based perspective.  It gives information and support to members, and promotes quality education and care, and the professional status of home-based education and care.

The New Zealand Home-based Early Childhood Education Association has seven geographical wards.  Members in each ward meet regularly to discuss matters of interest concerning early childhood education, in particular as they relate to the home-based sector.  Each ward has an elected representative on the national executive of the Association.

The Association meets regularly with, and is consulted by, the Ministry of Education, the Education Review Office, the New Zealand Teachers Council, and other organisations, on issues relating to early childhood education and the home-based sector.
