Constituted in 1926, New
Zealand Kindergartens Incorporated (NZK) is the national body of 29
kindergarten associations throughout New Zealand representing more
than 420 kindergartens. Our mission is to be the national voice of
kindergarten advocating excellence for children’s early learning.
Vision
NZK believes:
-
Every child has the
right to participate in high quality early childhood education.
-
Kindergartens are seen
as centres of excellence and innovation for early childhood
education.
-
Our goals are best
achieved through collaborative relationships at all levels.
-
Kindergarten is
responsive to the cultural and language aspirations of families.
The national office is
based in Wellington - Level 1, 32 the Terrace. The organisation is
governed by a board and managed by chief executive Clare Wells. The
board members are president Jeremy Neild, vice president Jean Tidy,
association manager Beverley Richards, early childhood professional
Jenny Varney and appointed members Anne Hare, Robbie Pickford and
Janice Bromell. The board sets the strategic direction and goals of
the organisation which are to:
-
lobby effectively to
improve the level of resources and the operating environment for
kindergarten
-
ensure that NZK
supports the desired outcomes and purposes of its membership
-
promote a unified
national voice to advocate for kindergarten
-
promote collaborative
relationships with other stakeholders in early childhood
-
promote opportunities
for kindergarten arising from government initiatives
